New pedestrian crossing for busy section of Pearse Road

A new pedestrian crossing is due to be installed at a busy junction on Letterkenny’s Pearse Road.

The controlled crossing will aid people crossing from the Community Centre to Justice Walsh road and nearby medical centres.

It is due to be completed by mid 2020.

The motion was first proposed in 2018 by Cllr Jimmy Kavanagh, who pointed out that elderly people found it difficult and dangerous to cross this section of the road.

The matter was raised again at this week’s Letterkenny-Milford MD meeting by Cllr Kevin Bradley, who said the crossing was badly needed and sought after by local businesses. The council has now confirmed that the crossing will be placed under the Designated Urban Grant Scheme (DUGS) Programme.
