Local councillors are due to meet next week to agree on a new pedestrian crossing for the village of Manorcunningham – where three separate crossings have been requested in recent years.
The council has been asked to provide speed ramps and signage on parts of Main Street Manorcunningham after local residents raised concerns over speeding.
Cllr Donal Kelly brought the issue to the local authority again this week to request safety measures on the road entering the village from the Lifford side.
However, as two other pedestrian crossings have been requested in other areas, councillors have been told to agree on one area to be treated as a matter of urgency.
Cllr Kelly told the council on Friday that no signage exists to warn motorists that they are entering a village as they come over the crest of a hill from the Lifford direction. He pointed out that there are residential areas, a creche and Health Centre on this busy road which has no speed ramps or signs and no pedestrian crossing or children crossing signs.
Donegal’s County Councillors have already requested installations of ramps/pedestrian crossings to the value of €827,000 across the county. As a result, the Letterkenny-Milford councillors were told that prioritisation is required to target crossings which are needed most urgently.
Councillors have agreed to meet with roads engineers in Manor next week to decide which of the three requested locations will be prioritised.
The roads department is also set to review signage in the village, while all other ramps/pedestrian crossing requests will be prioritised under a countywide policy.
