Gardaí are investigating a suspected arson attack in Letterkenny last Sunday.

A domestic shed was destroyed after catching fire at a yard in the residential area of Glencar at around 5.30pm.

Fire services and gardaí attended the scene and the fire was eventually extinguished.

But the large number of homes in the area could have led to a more serious incident if the fire had spread, according to Gardaí.

“The possibility of the fire being started deliberately has not been ruled out,” confirmed Garda Claire Rafferty.

Gardaí are appealing to the public to assist with the investigation into the criminal damage incident. If anyone has any information, they are asked to call Letterkenny Gardaí on 074 91 67100
