A man who suffering injuries on a hike has been safely stretchered off Errigal Mountain following a four-hour rescue mission.
The rescue operation involved the Rescue 118 helicopter, Irish Coast Guard and volunteers from Donegal Mountain Rescue.
The alarm was raised at around 3pm this afternoon when other walkers came across a man who had suffered a fall. The man had head, shoulder and knee injuries.
A multi-agency mission was launched, but difficult weather conditions hampered plans to have the man airlifted from the scene.
A winchman from Rescue 118 was lowered to the location and treated the casualty as rescue teams arrived on foot.
The teams then co-ordinated to bring the man off the mountain on a stretcher.
Irish Coast Guard were also tasked to assist with the stretcher carry, and their input was crucial in the speediness and smoothness of the rescue, according to Donegal Mountain Rescue.
The man was carried to Errigal mountain car park where he received medical treatment inside a waiting ambulance.
Rescue workers have thanked everyone who was involved in this successful mission.
