Donegal hairdresser’s plan to cut out Coronavirus threat

A Donegal hairdresser has implemented new measures for clients in a bid to prevent the spread of Coronavirus.

The first case of the infectious virus was confirmed in Ireland on Saturday when a Dublin student was diagnosed after returning from northern Italy.

Ballybofey salon owner Brenda Doherty is one of the many business owners who are taking action now to combat the COVID-19 threat.

From Tuesday onwards, the salon will be asking clients not to come in if they are feeling unwell or travelled from a country affected by Coronavirus.

Clients will be asked to use hand sanitizer as soon as they enter the salon and tissues will be provided at every hair station.

“I cannot tell you how worried I am about this virus,” Brenda told her clients on Facebook.

Brenda’s approach is that you can’t be too careful in protecting adults and children who are vulnerable to the illness.

“Please please do not take offence when we ask you to use hand sanitizer, we all have to be sensible and stay safe until this passes,” Brenda said.

Using current hand hygiene habits and alcohol-based sanitizers are among the HSE’s key guidelines for the prevention of the spread of COVID-19.

To protect yourself from coronavirus, the HSE advice is to:

  • Wash your hands properly and regularly
  • Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve when you cough and sneeze.
  • Put used tissues into a bin and wash your hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces.
  • Follow the travel advice from the Department of Foreign Affairs

Business Continuity Planning

Meanwhile, the Department of Business, Enterprise and Innovation has issued a checklist for businesses to get ready to respond to a heightened coronavirus outbreak in Ireland.

Preparing hygiene policies, flexible working plans, ICT infrastructure to support teleworking and remote customer interaction are among the plans that businesses need to address, according to the department.
