Huge sadness at passing of brave Donegal mum Sonya Hamilton

Sonya Hamilton McCloskey, a much-loved Ballybofey woman, has passed away at the age of 36.

The mother of five passed away at the Donegal Hospice following a battle with cancer.

Sonya, who was originally from St Johnston, had recently received a huge outpouring of support from her local community during her illness.

In the past year, friends of the family showed amazing generosity by raising thousands of euro for the ‘Sonya’s Struggle’ fund. The fund was monumental in helping Sonya and her husband Michael find alternative treatments abroad and also supported the family as they shared precious time together.

All the while, Sonya’s strength and bravery touched many hearts across the Finn Valley and wider community.

Sonya passed away peacefully this Monday morning surrounded by family at the Donegal Hospice.

Her husband Michael, children Jasmaine, Rihanna, Kailin, Sorcha and Miyah, parents Leslie and Noreen, and siblings David, Lorraine and Richard are being comforted by family and friends at this time.

Funeral arrangements are as follows:

Sonya McCloskey (née Hamilton)

Corgary, Ballybofey, Donegal / St Johnston, Donegal

Remains reposing at her home on Tuesday, March 3rd, from 11am.

Funeral leaving her home on Wednesday, March 4th, at 2pm for Prayer Service in St. Mary’s Church, Sessiaghoneill, Ballybofey, at 2.30pm. Interment afterwards in the adjoining churchyard.

Donations in lieu of flowers please, if so desired, to the Donegal Hospice, care of any family member.

Family time from 11pm to 11am and on the morning of the funeral.
