Donegal County Council is to carry out an inspection of lifebuoys around the coastline after a number went missing during recent storms.
A number of the life-saving rings have been recovered nearby their holders.
However, a number are still missing.
The council has now appointed a contractor to examine the rings.
Local county councillor Micheal Mac Giolla Easbuig has appealed to swimmers and those who walk the beaches to contact the council if they notice life-rings missing.
“A number of the rings went missing recently during the bad weather for whatever reason.
“Thankfully, the council has appointed a contractor to carry out an examination of the life-rings.
“These rings can be the difference between life and death.
“I would appeal to anybody out and about along our coastline to check to see if these life-rings are still in their local area.
“If they are not then they should contact the council immediately,” he said.
