A Donegal actor and singer has touched thousands of hearts with an emotional tribute to his late mother.

Denis Grindel lost his beloved mum Margaret on 30th January 2020.

Margaret Grindel (née Cannon) was a popular Stranorlar woman and former schoolteacher who is sadly missed by her family and wide circle of friends.

But she has been remembered in a very special way this week by her son in America.

Denis, who is a member of the US-based Choir of Man singing group, brought his troupe together to sing a heart-rending rendition of My Donegal in memory of Margaret.

The video was recorded for Margaret’s Month’s Mind, as Denis sadly could not make it to the Mass at home.

In sharing the tribute performance on Facebook, talented singer Denis said:

“A month ago today we lay mum to rest.”

“It’s her anniversary months mind mass back home but I can’t be there as I’m with work in America but I wanted to commemorate the day with this song.

“It was one of mums favourites and we sang it by her graveside. With the help of my friends from  The Choir Of Man we put together this arrangement.

“Forever in my heart Mum.

“‘We’ll kneel and pray there for the ones who have gone, and hope that they’re proud of their wandering son.'”

The video has been watched over 34,000 times and has been praised as a beautiful tribute to a lady who is dearly missed in the Finn Valley.
