Family raises €12,975 in gratitude for care of special baby boy

A Donegal family has raised an amazing €12,975 for three charities who placed a crucial part in saving their baby boy’s life.

Baby James Devenney from Newtowncunningham is the apple of his parents’ eyes, but he had a difficult start to life after contracting meningitis and sepsis at only 18 days old in September 2019.

His parents Gareth and Ciara rushed him from the GP clinic to Letterkenny University Hospital, and he was later sent to Temple Street Children’s Hospital. After three weeks of care, James thankfully survived the infection and is amazing doctors with his recovery.

Letterkenny Children’s Ward, Temple Street Children’s Hospital and Hugh’s House were saviours for the Devenney family during this frightening time. As a thank you, they wanted to give back by organising fundraisers and setting up a Go Fund Me campaign to share their story. A successful walk was held at Inch Wildfowl Reserve on St Stephen’s Day 2019.

The Devenneys proudly presented cheques to the two hospitals and Hugh’s House recently and issued a big thank you to everyone who contributed to the fundraisers:

“We are so overwhelmed with all the support and a massive thank you everyone in helping us reach this amount for the three charities,” said Gareth.
