This year’s St. Patrick’s Day parade in Letterkenny has been called off due to the coronavirus outbreak.
The Letterkenny Chamber made the announcement this afternoon following a board telecall.
In a statement, organisers said: “This decision was taken in the interests of the health and well being of our community.”
The event, which attracts thousands of people each year, was due to take place on Main Street at 3pm St Patrick’s Day next week.
The Letterkenny Chamber’s decision to cancel the event follows other towns across Ireland who are taking precautionary steps to prevent the spread of COVID-19. Ireland’s largest parade in Dublin has also been cancelled following the advice of public health officials.
