Listen: ‘Performance leaves us with a lot to work on’ – Brendan Kilcoyne

BRENDAN Kilcoyne says the Donegal minors’ second-half display offered encouragement – but has warned the young charges they have a lot to work on.

Tyrone – spurred by five points from Ruairi Canavan – defeated Donegal 1-10 to 1-8 in the Ulster Minor League at O’Donnell Park.

A Blake McGarvey penalty kick-started a Donegal comeback, but the Red Hands were more clinical.

“You’re always disappointed to lose, especially by one score,” Donegal selector Kilcoyne told Donegal Daily/Donegal Sport Hub afterwards.

“We were really poor in the first half and that was concerning at half-time. My over-riding feeling is happiness with the second half. We maybe felt that we deserved something.”

Donegal were 0-6 to 0-2 behind at half-time after a disappointing first half.

Kilcoyne, who is part of the back room team of manager Luke Barrett, said: “They put up a good really good performance We asked a lot of questions in the second half. We made mistakes, but I felt we controlled the ball better in the second half. We left ourselves with a bit much to do. The level of performance left us with a lot to work on.”
