Donegal County Council is set to put forward a request to HSE to consider restoring the St. Conal’s Hospital building in Letterkenny.
With a large section of the building lying derelict, Cllr Kevin Bradley has said it is time to “put it to good use”.
Speaking at the Letterkenny-Milford council meeting this week, Cllr Bradley said that the building is a “fine place” with “fine parking”. The back of the building is in need of repairs, he said, and “now that the Acute Stroke Unit has got the go ahead as there is a perfectly good hospital space sitting derelict.”
Cllr Ciaran Brogan has backed the call and said the idea could be an opportunity for a shared development and a “win-win situation” for the council and the HSE.
Cllr Michael McBride added that he was advised, as a former member of the HSE forum, that there are plans for the St. Conal’s building to be used as office space under the next capital programme of the Saolta Group.
