A Donegal couple refused to let the coronavirus get in the way of their big day and wore face masks during the nuptials.

Martin Boyle and bride-to-be Catherine McCole exchanged vows at St Mary’s Church in Derrybeg in Gaoth Dobhair.

The happy couple were left in stitches of laughter when Fr Brian O Fearraigh told Martin “You may now blink at the bride.”

Fr O’Ferraigh said he could not take credit for the novel nuptial saying he had borrowed it having heard it from a friend.

“We all had a giggle at it,” he said.

Fr O Fearraigh also greeted the happy couple at the altar with elbow bumps and also invited the congregation to do the same during the sign of peace.

He added that this week has been a very stressful week for Martin and Catherine but he hoped the wedding went well for them after all their worries because of the coronavirus outbreak.

He added “The face-masks were only introduced as a bit of lighthearted fun and banter, to what has been a very stressful few days for the couple.”

On a more serious note, Fr O Fearraigh said although these were worrying times, he asked the public to look out for eachother.

“It certainly is worrying times, but as long as we are all prudent and abide by the health and safety advice given by the medical professionals, look out for one another, particularly our most elderly and vulnerable please God comfort, strength and peace will be ours,” he said.
