Donegal bars begin to close doors temporarily and others may follow

Bars in Co Donegal are beginning to close their doors as many realise the seriousness of the spread of coronavirus.

McGuigans Bar in Stranorlar has been one of the first to take the measure.

A message on the bar’s Facebook page to customers reads “Hi all, folks we as Team McGuigan’s we have decided to close our doors for the foreseeable future until this storm the coronavirus passes we will be back soon as possible for the safety of our staff customers and family PLEASE STAY SAFE.”

Sean Ogs Bar in Ballyshannon, Owenie’s Bar in Dungloe and Nora’s Bar in Kilmacrennan have also just announced that they are to close their doors today until further notice as a result of the coronavirus threat.

There is no direct order on bars or restaurants to close their doors.

Although social spacing is being introduced in restaurants, it is almost impossible to introduce in bars.

A number of hotels including the Allingham Arms in Bundoran have also decided to shut their doors for the next two weeks at least.

Demand for hotel rooms has dropped dramatically and other hotels are closing down wings of their hotels but remaining opening for the foreseeable future.

A decision on bars, restaurants and hotels is expected to be made by the Government in the coming days.

McGuigans Bar in Stranorlar is to close temporarily due to the coronavirus threat.
