A former Garda Sergeant has claimed members of the force are not being protected properly from the coronavirus.
Retired Garda Christy Galligan served in the force in Donegal for more than 30 years before his retirement.
He said he welcomes an increase in the number of Gardai across the country but claims they are not being protected enough on the frontline.
He said “While we see an increase in the number of Gardai coming to the North West my concern like anyone is how are these frontline Gardai being protected from this pandemic?
“I am well aware that Gardai attending incidences are not supplied with PPE and are not being tested.
“Wouldn’t this be a priority for anyone working on frontline service?
If this is the reality on the ground is here not a likelihood of frontline Gardai being infected or once infected infecting others?#8221;
He added that the Government must at all costs protect ALL of our frontline services.
He added “This protection is vital as they are the first responders to any incidences that occur within our communities.
“Why hasn’t this being progressed as a priority?#8221;
