HUNDREDS of homes in the Bridgend area are without water due to a burst pipe.

The burst, which happened overnight, is currently being repaired by an Irish Water service team.

It is estimated that the works will be completed by 4.30pm this afternoon.

The Bonemaine area is worst effected with homes in other areas also without water.

Irish water said: “We recommend that you allow 2-3 hours after the estimated restoration time for your supply to fully return.”

Inishowe-based Sinn Féin Councillor Jack Murray said: “Families are at home at a very stressful time without water for the day.

“People need this basic service. It again highlights a real need for investment in this service. Water is a most basic of service and people should not be at home with that service at these times. it simply isn’t acceptable”
