Sadness in Donegal at death of disability activist Frank Larkin

THERE is deep sadness in Donegal this evening flowing the shock death of Frank Larkin.

The Letterkenny-based disability awareness and equality activist died at Letterkenny University Hospital today.

Frank, who was 48, was taken into LUH earlier this week.

Frank lived all of his life with Spina Bifida. He was a board member of Donegal Centre for Independent Living (DCIL) and last year he represented Ireland at the European Network for Independent Living in Brussels.

In 2013, he was elected as Chairperson of Spina Bifida Hydrocephalus Ireland, a national campaigning body for people with disabilities.

Back in 2009, Frank was a Fine Gael candidate in the Letterkenny Town Council elections, but didn’t obtain one of the nine available seats.

Frank was passionate about sport as well as politics.

A Liverpool fanatic, he was also an ardent Finn Harps fan and served recently as the club’s Disability Access Officer.
