Six more people have died as a result of Covid-19 in Northern Ireland in the past day.

The total number of deaths in the region has now reached 21.

The Public Health Agency (PHA) has confirmed another 86 cases, bringing the total to 410.

A further 207 people have died in the UK due to coronavirus, taking the total to 1,235.

New regulations came into force in Northern Ireland on Saturday night to restrict movement. The powers compel the closure of certain premises and prohibit anyone from leaving home without a reasonable excuse. Gatherings of more than two people are also banned.

Penalties ranging from fixed penalty notices to fines of up to £5,000 are being introduced to enforce the new powers under The Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) Regulations (Northern Ireland) 2020.

An update on confirmed cases in the Republic of Ireland will be released later this evening.
