There has been 17 deaths recorded across the Republic of Ireland today.

This is the largest number of deaths to date in a 24 hour period.

There has also been a further 325 new cases of Covid-19.

703 people have been hospitalised with Covid-19, 113 of whom are in intensive care.

It has also been revealed that one quarter of the transmissions are among healthcare workers.

This brings the total to 3,235 cases.

Chief Medical Officer said it is too early to say if this is the beginning of the surge.

He said we must continue to flatten the curve saying a 15% growth is too much.
