Donegal woman Fiona Whelan Prine has appealed for prayers and love as her husband continues to battle coronavirus.

Grammy award-winning US singer John Prine, aged 73, is said to be in a stable condition after becoming critically ill on Saturday.

John’s wife Fiona, who is from Ardara, was diagnosed with Covid-19 earlier this month and was in isolation.

Fiona posted a tweet on Monday to say she has now recovered from the illness.

However, John remains in hospital after suffering a sudden onset of symptoms last week. The 73-year-old singer, who has a large fanbase in Donegal, is a two-time cancer survivor and had stent surgery last year.

Fiona took to social media to ask for prayers at this time.

She wrote: “I have recovered from Covid-19. We are humbled by the outpouring of love for me and John and our precious family. He is stable (sic). Please continue to send your amazing Love and prayers. Sing his songs. Stay home and wash hands. John loves you. I love you.”

Fiona later posted an update to say that John remains on a ventilator and has not been improving.

“I need to clarify what I mean by “John is stable”. That is not the same as improving. There is no cure for Covid-19. He needs our prayers and love – as do the thousands of others who are critically ill. Stay at home. Wash your hands. We love you.”
