Fees waived for UK/EU nurses who want to join Ireland’s Covid-19 fight

Nurses from the UK and European countries will have their registration fees waived if they apply to join Ireland’s healthcare service during the Covid-19 emergency, it has been confirmed.

General nurses who want to ‘Be on Call for Ireland’ will not be required to pay the usual fees of €495 to the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland.

The temporary measure will allow nurses to support the Irish health care system on a no fee ‘temporary and occasional’ basis if they are currently registered with the regulator in their own country.

The NMBI has also confirmed that it will fast-track the applications of returning nurses.

Nurses need to apply via the European Union, Electronic Professional Card (EPC) system on the Europa website. Applicants who follow this route will be processed within two to three days.
