ILLIES Celtic star Alana Doherty is set to make a big move to America on a soccer scholarship later this year.

The talented midfielder, one of the North West Women’s Super League’s leading lights in the last couple of seasons, is to make the move to Oakland City University.

The Clonmany woman’s signed a letter of intent this week.

Doherty had recently signed for Derry City ladies following the collapse of the North West Women’s Super League.

Last season, Doherty scored one of the goals in the Inishowen Cup final win over Greencastle, while she was also on the mark in the Top Four Cup final win over the Greeks.

She had been a real ace in the pack for John Doherty’s Illies and now the midfielder is looking forward to lining out with the Mighty Oaks from the autumn.
