AS THEY unveil a new Covid-19 Hardship Fund for the elderly and vulnerable, the Irish Red Cross are on the look out for new members.

The Irish Red Cross in Donegal are seeking volunteers to aid in offering supports to communities.

The Adult Associate Membership allows people aged 18 years or older to join the Irish Red Cross at no cost for a period of six months.

These members need to complete a Garda Vetting application through the Irish Red Cross and complete the Membership induction and Safeguarding courses online.

An application form is available to download by clicking here.

The Red Cross and Age Action have also launched a Covid-19 hardship fund.

The fund has been launched to respond to the need of elderly people who are in vulnerable situations and experiencing Covid-19 related hardships.

“The scheme is designed to provide immediate practical relief to assist in alleviating the hardships they experience due to the Covid-19 pandemic,” the Red Cross said.

Once-off grants, up to a maximum of €500, per person/household are being made available.

The funds can be used for items like small household maintenance, repairs or safety improvements; food and basic provisions; upgraded or new small appliances; providing digital technology equipment.

An application form is available online on the Irish Red Cross or Age Action websites.

You can email hardship2020@redcross.ie to request a form or to obtain further information.

The Irish Red Cross and Age Action will assess applications and oversee distribution of funds on a weekly basis and successful applicants will be notified as soon as possible.
