A local alert has been raised in the Letterkenny area after a group of men allegedly knocked on the door of an elderly pensioner and asked to come in for a drink.
The incident occurred in the Kirkstown/Ballymacool area of the town, where men were reported acting suspiciously as they attempted to enter the home of a man in his 80s.
The men reportedly told the pensioner that they wanted a drink of water.
Fortunately, the man’s son was also home at the time and said he prevented the strangers from coming in.
The incident has been reported to gardaí.
The man’s son said the suspects were not from the area and added: “It’s scary because if I wasn’t there daddy would have let them in. They didn’t hurt anybody but daddy has been nervous since, understandably.”
“Everyone has enough to worry about at the minute without this and the next person might not be as lucky but unfortunately it’s the world we live in.”
