The public has been warned to be on alert for a fraudulent text relating to the Covid-19 pandemic.
In the text, the receiver is told that they have been in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 or is showing symptoms. The receiver is advised to self-isolate and to click on a link to get tested.
Gardaí are warning the public not to click on the link.
“THIS IS A SCAM. Delete the text and don’t follow the link. For all information on Covid19, follow the Government guidelines on gov.ie or HSE.ie,” said Tipperary gardaí on social media.
Factual information on Covid-19 is available on gov.ie or HSE.ie.
The text is particularly dangerous as the HSE continues contact tracing. However, gardaí have said this contact will always be by telephone.
“A member of the public health team may phone you and ask about people you have been in contact with.
“This is called contact tracing. Your GP can also advise you further,” they said.
Members of the public are being advised to warn family and elderly people about the scam.
