Gardaí are continuing to search for the occupants of a car involved in a dangerous cross-border chase on Monday.

The pursuit, which began in Downings at around 2pm, spanned across Donegal and eventually ended in Tyrone.

Gardaí deployed a stinger at once stage in a bid to halt the Audi, but the driver fled across the border.

Details have now been released of the driver and the vehicle as gardaí appeal for dashcam footage of the chase.

The car is a Red Audi with partial registration GHZ. The driver has been described as a ‘skinny young male, with a heavy stubble’. Another male was in the car and possibly two females. They made their getaway in the Castlederg area, where the car was located.

Gardaí from across the area were alerted to the chase, which began after the red Audi was seen being driver dangerously in the Downings area. Milford Garda located the car on the beach, but the occupants jumped in and drove off as gardaí approached them.

The car performed a dangerous manoeuvre on the beach, almost colliding with one of the Gardaí and took off at speed.

Gardaí all over the division were then immediately alerted in relation to the car in question. The car was observed on the dual carriageway by Gardaí but failed to stop and continued at high speeds towards Castlefin.

At Donnyloop, the stinger was deployed but the car continued on and rammed one of the patrol cars in a bid to evade being stopped.

The car then crossed the border, where it was located by the PSNI.

No gardaí were injured in the incident. The occupants are still being sought and gardaí are seeking any witnesses to the incident that could offer a description of the driver. Anyone who had dash cam footage who may have come across the chase is asked to contact Letterkenny Gardaí on +353 74 9167100 or Milford Garda Station on +353 74 9153060.
