Gardai in Letterkenny are to take action against car washes which are flouting the law by opening during the lockdown.

A number of complaints have been made to Gardai by members of the public over the opening of at least one car wash – next door to Century Cinema.

We called to the car wash and a number of cars were being washed.

A spokesperson for Donegal County Council said the matter was one for Gardai and whether or not car washing was an essential service during the Covid-19 lockdown.

But Gardai have now told Donegal Daily that they are due to take action against the operators of the car washes.

A spokesperson said “They are not an essential service and should not be open.

“We have reports of one car wash being open and we are due to speak to them. They should be closed down.

“We will follow up on this.”
