A STAFF group from IT Sligo are climbing Everest today – inside their own homes!
The group, led by IT Sligo’s School Liaison Officer Micheál Dowdican, who lives in Bundoran, are taking fundraising efforts for the North West Hospice to new heights.
The total height of Everest is the equivalent of over 3,500 flights of stairs. Each participant will ascent a minimum of 500 flights of their stairs – only the steps up will count.
“None of us claim to be flying fit so it will be a challenge most definitely,” Micheál told Donegal Daily.
“The Empire State Building has 86 flights of stairs to put it in perspective!
“It’s all about raising money though. As you will know a lot of charities are struggling at the moment.
“We want to have a bit of fun with it and get people and families involved and join in.
“They can share their videos and photos with us and check our Facebook Page for updates.”
Already, the group have passed their €5,000 target. Donations have poured in with around €5,500 raised at the time of posting this story.
Another Donegal connection to the venture is Glenda Conway, the IT Sligo Marketing Officer, is the daughter of Glenties native Imelda Breslin.
North West Hospice in Sligo provides an in-patient unit, community palliative care team and a hospital palliative care team to people in Sligo, Leitrim, South Donegal and west Cavan.
The group are all recording their efforts and will be posted online to keep them honest!
