Donegal pupils invited to enter Young Writer of the Year contest

Donegal school students are being invited to explore their creative writing skills and enter the North West Words Young Writer of the Year 2020 Competition.

The competition, sponsored by Pramerica, encourages budding authors to write poems and short stories for the change to win great prizes, with the overall winner receiving a trophy and cash prize.

Entries are open now until Monday 18th May.

It is free to enter and open to three categories: Primary Schools, Secondary School Junior Cycle and Secondary Schools Senior Cycle.

The competition judge is award winning poet and playwright Deirdre Hines.

How to enter: 

 

  • Short Story: Can be on any theme, maximum 1,000 words per story.
  • Poetry: Can be on any theme, maximum 40 lines per poem.

Postal Entries should be sent to Pramerica Young Writer Competition, North West Words, 54 Thornberry, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal F92Y76W.

Email Entries: northwestwords@outlook.com. Entries sent by email must be enclosed in the body of the message.

Entries must be your own original work and not previously published.

Entries cannot be changed once entered for the competition. Entries cannot be returned.

Entries sent by email must be enclosed in the body of the message (to avoid attached files being encrypted / not possible to open. Attached documents WILL NOT be accepted.

Entries sent by Post should be accompanied by a cover sheet with the writer’s name, address, school address, a contact phone number, title of piece and category.

The writer’s name should NOT be printed on their entry.

There is NO CHARGE to enter the Pramerica Young Writer Competition.

Judge’s decision is final.

Copyright of each entry remains with the author, but North West Words & Pramerica will have the unrestricted right to publish the winning poems & stories on their website, other media and in press releases publicising the competition.

The winners of each category of each competition will receive a prize sponsored by Pramerica.

A ‘ Young Writer of the Year 2020’ prize will also be awarded to one of the shortlisted finalists.

Closing date of the Competitions is 6.00pm Monday May 18th 2020.

Presentation of prizes will be subject to Government Guidelines on Public events during Covid -19 in June
