A GROUP of staff from IT Sligo have raised almost €9,000 by climbing the equivalent to Mount Everest at their own homes.

The staff members climbed over 3,500 flights of stairs, each person ascending a minimum of 500.

The team climbed over 55,000 steps in the fundraiser for the North West Hospice.

The group was led by IT Sligo’s School Liaison Officer Micheál Dowdican, who lives in Bundoran.

North West Hospice in Sligo provides an in-patient unit, community palliative care team and a hospital palliative care team to people in Sligo, Leitrim, South Donegal and west Cavan. The Hospice is facing a challenging time due to the Covid-19 pandemic, but the fund-raising efforts of the climbers will come as a welcome boost.

Another Donegal connection to the venture is Glenda Conway, the IT Sligo Marketing Officer, is the daughter of Glenties native Imelda Breslin.

To date, €8,627 has been raised.
