Organisers of the Letterkenny Jazz & Blues Festival have today announced that this year’s event will not go ahead due to Covid-19.
The first festival was launched in venues across Letterkenny last July, attracting large numbers of music fans to the town for a bumper weekend.
However, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the festival committee has decided to cancel plans for 2020.
A statement said: “It’s with a heavy heart the committee have taken the decision to cancel this year’s Kinnegar Letterkenny Jazz and Blues Festival which was due to take place on the first weekend of July. Under the current circumstances with Covid 19 and with respect to our guests and community it is in the best interest of public health not to run the event this year.
“Several months of work planning had already been put into this year’s event and we were excited to have a great lineup of acts including several International jazz and blues acts” explains committee Chair Person Mark Ponsonby. “We also had several Fringe events happening over the weekend. We were delighted with our first festival in 2019 that was so well supported by sponsors, venues and audiences so the plan was to make 2020 bigger and better.”
“The success of the Letterkenny Jazz & Blues Festival depended on the participation of our venues and sponsors and it is sad to see so many of those businesses closed and unable to operate.
“We are disappointed but we will return in 2021 and promise to put on a great Jazz and Blues weekend again next year.”
