The pupils of Scoil Mhuire in Glenties might just have the ‘coolest’ principal after getting a sweet Friday treat today.
Principal Cróna Rodgers surprised all 123 of her pupils with an ice-cream delivery today as a reward for all their hard work keeping up with lessons at home.

Getting the treats out to 80 homes was a major undertaking, but the Glenties Community Response team was happy to help. The community came together to coordinate deliveries over an hour slot to ensure every pupil could enjoy their ice-cream in the sunshine this afternoon.
Ms Rodgers has said a big thank you to everyone who helped make her idea a success.
She told Donegal Daily: “The weather was so lovely this week and we were getting evidence that the pupils were still working from home. We thought they deserved something nice on a Friday.
“So we arranged with Costcutter to get 80 blocks of ice-cream and wafers, because I was aware that there would be older and younger people in the house so everyone could share.”
Ms Rodgers contacted Brian Carr, Chairperson of the Glenties Community Development Group, to see if the plan would work, and the response was hugely positive. Community response volunteers are all well-practised in making safe, socially-distanced deliveries, so they were ideal for the task.
In these difficult times, seeing the children enjoy their ice-creams was a treat for everyone.
Ms Rodgers added: “Missing this term is particularly hard on the children. This is their favourite term – they have their football, sports day, school tours. We did notice this week that they were really missing school and their friends.
“Their world has been completely changed, so this was one small thing that we can do to say thank you to them for the effort that they are putting in.”
