Diesel below €1 per litre at one Donegal forecourt as fuel prices plummet

FORECOURT fuel prices have continued to plummet in Donegal with diesel falling below €1 per litre in some parts.

Diesel at Coyle’s in Raphoe was retailing at 99.9c per litre this morning.

Oil prices have plunged to their lowest level in more than two decades.

Motor fuel prices are at their lowest levels since 2000. However the travel restrictions have meant that forecourt fuel sales have also dropped dramatically.

A collapse in global prices and families being stuck at home during the Covid-19 lockdown has resulted in a surge of heating oil sales.

In the last seven weeks, traders have noticed a price drop of as much as 25 per cent.

Suppliers say that heating oil is at its lowest level for 20 years.
