A DONEGAL primary school principal and a former GAA All-Star are offering people the chance to get a Zoom call with sporting heroes – and at the same time helping to raise money for local care centres.

Pádraig Mac Grianna, who is the principal of Bunbeg National School, and former Donegal star Kevin Cassidy, have launched ‘Zoom Your Hero’.

The fundraising initiative will raise funds to aid three care centres in quest Donegal: Áras Ghaoth Dobhair, Falcarragh Community Hospital and Dungloe Community Hospital.

A list of heroes for the first week include for Republic of Ireland international Kevin Kilbane, Ireland women’s international Amber Barrett, 2012 All-Ireland winner Eamon McGee, Donegal senior football manager Declan Bonner, Donegal ladies captain Geraldine McLaughlin and GAA legend Joe Brolly.

The organisers say: “Covid-19 has made life difficult for many people.

Children will be missing school, their friends and extra curricular activities. All of us are missing social interaction with family and friends during this trying time.

“We want to give children as well as adults a boost by giving them a chance to get a Zoom call from one of their heroes.

“Winners will be contacted via email  or phone following the draws and a Zoom call will be arranged with a code being sent to all participants.”

The draw for the week one winners will be made on Sunday, May 3.
