Daniel O’Donnell said he thought celebrity architect Dermot Bannon was going to be ‘depositing gold’ in his new Donegal home after he heard the price of it.
However, the singer has admitted Bannon “was very good” as he and his wife ended with a “beautiful house” following Room to Improve special.
When Majella and Daniel decided to renovate their home they asked the Room To Improve star to help them out with some hilarious results which television viewers got a chance to see.
Daniel and Majella spoke with RTE’s Today hosts Maura Derrane and Daithi O’Se about their stunning home saying they had to “give Dermot credit” for the beautiful home despite the many rows they had on the show.
Speaking on the chat show Majella said: “We sat down with Dermot and we told him exactly what we wanted we told him the feel we wanted.
“I must admit he was very good at that. I told him the feel I wanted to have when I came into the house and I wanted the openness but I wanted it cosy and he managed to do all that.
“I absolutely love it and I never said that about a house we were in before. I love being in this space.”
Daniel then joked: “And I just wanted toilets.”
Dermot and Daniel had some arguments about the budget while on the show and he brought that up with Maura and Daithi.
He said: “Don’t talk to me about that it was going to cost me about 200,000 and I told him you’d want to be depositing gold in that.
“We were lucky I suppose I must say now I have to give Dermot credit we ended up with a beautiful house.
“There’s nothing in it that we don’t use we have four bedrooms which I suppose we don’t need all the time.
“Dermot did a great job.”
Speaking about their gorgeous home Majella also added: “It’s not ostentatious, it’s not grand.
“People might have been disappointed when they look at our house and think we should have something much bigger but its beautiful and its cosy.”
Then they spoke about how they were coping during the lockdown as they haven’t been able to see their family since it started.
Daniel explained: “We do miss seeing them but I’m on the video every day and even before all this I would be videoing them all the time.”
While Majella said: “I miss seeing my grandson changing he’s only two but he’s different to when I saw him he’s much bigger his hair is much longer and curly and it’s like slow down.
“He’s just changing all the time.”
This comes after Daniel’s sister Margo O’Donnell has revealed how rumours that her brother as actually her son left her mother very “hurt”.
The country singer, 68, told how the showbiz pair were never bothered by the absurd tittle-tattle — but their mam Julia took it to heart.
Margo revealed how the pair struggled with rumours about their relationship.
Daniel laughed: “We’d have been in the circus, the two of us then.”
Margo added: “It didn’t hurt us but it did hurt Mam.”
