34 more Covid-19 deaths and 221 new cases confirmed

HEALTH officials have confirmed a further 34 Covid-19 related deaths in the Republic of Ireland.

A total of 1,265 people have now died in the country after contracting the coronavirus.

Another 221 more positive cases of Covid-19 were announced today. Since the outbreak, there have been 20,833 cases.

Four new cases were confirmed in Donegal, bringing the county total to 458.

This evening’s regular Department of Health media briefing was cancelled, less than 20 minutes after being announced.

An Taoiseach Leo Varadkar is due to give his latest televised address at 6.30pm. Lockdown measures are expected to continue.

However, over-70s are to to be advised that they can now exercise away form their homes and the current 2km travel restriction is to be extended to 5km.
