Minister Joe McHugh is to cancel the Leaving Certificate examination for the coming year.
More than 60,000 students were due to sit the exam starting at the end of July.
However, senior Government officials have now indicated that the examinations will not go ahead.
Minister McHugh is to present his alternative plans for the Leaving Cert to Cabinet tomorrow morning (Fri).
RTE News say they have spoken to senior Government sources who have indicated that Minister McHugh is preparing a memo on the alternatives.
However, what exactly the alternative plan comprises of is not yet known.
