Local courts to start hearing cases again

A local District Court judge has indicated that the hearing of cases will recommence from next week.

Judge Paul Kelly said that cases will be heard in courts such as Letterkenny, Dungloe, Buncrana and Falcarragh from next week.

Up until now the vast majority of cases had been adjourned to later dates because of the Covid-19 restrictions.

However, Judge Kelly indicated today that Gardai should attend for cases next week.

He said that defendants did not have to attend because they could be represented by their solicitors.

However, he said that people were entitled to attend their cases if they wished to do so.

Cases which require state witnesses such as Gardai will go ahead.

It is also understood that family law cases will take priorty.
