The Department of Health has recorded Ireland’s lowest daily increase in Covid-19 cases since 21st March, with 107 new cases announced this evening.
Twenty four more people have sadly lost their lives as a result of the virus, it was also confirmed.
The death toll has now reached 1,488 in the Republic.
The total number of known cases is 23,242, while over 17,000 patients have recovered.
Seventy-one patients remain in ICU, while the latest update from Letterkenny University Hospital recorded no critical care patients onsite last night. Ten patients in LUH had confirmed cases of the virus as of 8pm Monday, while a further 19 patients were suspected cases.
Chief Medical Officer Dr Tony Holohan said the National Public Health Emergency Team regards Ireland’s progress as encouraging but “we need to keep going”.
Dr Holohan said: “We still have 70 people in ICU and over 500 people in hospital. We have more work to do.”
