Plans are underway for a new mural to be created by young people of the Long Lane area of Letterkenny.
The Long Lane Area Residents Committee has been awarded funding for the arts project from Creative Ireland through the Donegal Culture and Creativity Grant Scheme.
The arts project will be specially aimed towards young people of the area to get them involved in the development and design of the project. #
“We are absolutely over the moon to have been awarded this grant. We want to show the community that everyone in this area has a say and that especially means our young people. This project is for them and makes them all feel it is their community too. We aim to have a mural somewhere on the Long Lane where the young people will have the overall decision on what the design will be” said Residents Committee chair, Finn O Donnell.
The committee is seeking up to 15 young people from the Long Lane area to take part in the 3 to 4 week project. One day each week, the group will meet to exchange ideas and to come up with a design that they will all agree on. The committee has been in touch with UV arts, the art organisation that designed the Derry Girls mural in Derry city.
Mr O Donnell added “Of course with everything going on right now, nothing can be set up any time soon. However, we are seeking applicants to sign up to the project so if anyone is interested please contact us through our group page or through our members.”
Committee Treasurer, Karen Mc Cafferty said: “It’s a great opportunity for the youth of Long Lane to come together, use their initiative and have pride in their community and the area they come from.”
