A DONEGAL man was denied bail after making a plea to a district court judge from prison.

Christopher Dunleavy from Annagry, appeared before Falcarragh District Court via video link from Castlerea Prison.

Addressing the court, Dunleavy asked if he could make a plea for bail.

“I had a couple of mishaps and missed the last court date,” Dunleavy said.

“I apologise for that and it won’t happen again. I promise I will not miss my next date. I will show up.”

Dunleavy mentioned a difficulty owing to the ongoing Covid-19 restrictions.

Judge Paul Kelly asked prison officers to put Dunleavy in contact with the probation services attached to the facility.

Judge Kelly rejected Dunleavy’s pleas.

“The problem is that there have been numerous promises and you signed written bail bonds,” Judge Paul Kelly told Dunleavy.

“You failed to turn up and that is why you are where you are today.

“You have also failed to co-operate with the services. I am looking at a probation report from February 10th, well before Covid kicked in.

“The last time you attended the services was on November 22, 2019 and the last time before that was on September 5, 2019.

“You were warned numerous times, so I am not going to grant bail.”

Judge Kelly remanded Dunleavy in custody to reappear via video link on May 25.
