A DONEGAL woman who set out on a challenge to walk 500km in the name of charity finished her quest today – and has raised more than DOUBLE her target.

Gortahork woman Joanne Cullen set up Hike for Heroes at the start of May in aid of Letterkenny University Hospital and the Donegal Hospice.

Joanne is pictured above with Geraldine Cannon and Katie Doohan, staff members at Letterkenny University Hospital.

Her initial aim was to walk 500k from May 5th to June 5th and collect €1,000 in the process.

Joanne finished her challenge today and has already raised a cool €2,040 and counting for the causes.

Funds will be divided equally and presented to the two charities.

Joanne’s daily walks were all done within 5km of her home, while she was given a helping hand by some friends along the way.

Joanne says she is ‘overwhelmed’ by the generosity and has thanked all those who walked, donated and supported.

Joanne also paid tribute to the staff of both LUH and the Donegal Hospice for their amazing work.

Anyone wishing to donate can still do so here: https://www.gofundme.com/f/38zrp-hike-for-heroes?utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_campaign=p_cp+share-sheet
