AN appeal has been made after a pet cat was shot by a metal pellet gun.

The disturbing incident happened on Tuesday, June 2, in the Gortlee area of Letterkenny. The incident occurred sometime between 12 midday and 5pm

The cat sustained an open wound and, following examination from a vet, it was confirmed that she had been shot with a metal pellet gun.

The concerned pet owner contacted Donegal Daily last night to express her distress.

“Our cat came home from her daily stroll and we noticed a cut on her side,” the woman said.

“The pellet is lodged right next to the spine and too dangerous to remove. The cat is currently recovering.”

Gardaí and the ISPCA have been informed of the incident.

The woman is worried that this may not be an isolated incident.

She said: “Our area as like the surrounding estates have a number of small children and pets outside especially during the warm weather.”
