The public is being invited to get out and enjoy a virtual fundraising walk in aid of Donegal Down Syndrome takes place this Sunday 14th June.
The ‘Mary T & Friends Virtual Walk’ has been organised by local adult students to celebrate a year of further education.
Eight adult students, led by Mary T – and also including Leanne, Seamus, Cian, David, Martin, Paul and Kenneth – have almost finished their Donegal ETB Latch-On course.
Students had their last online class on Thursday and they were presented with their certificates of achievements.
A fundraising event had been planned for March, but that had to be shelved due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Now, a virtual event is in motion to celebrate.
In order to participate, the public is asked to adhere to the current Government guidelines. People are asked to start from their homes and walk only with those within their homes while adhering to social distancing measures. The distance involved is 2km and people are asked to start from 2pm on June 14.
Latch-On is one module of the Ability Programme, which provides people with Down syndrome access to meaningful employment opportunities.
The Course was held by Donegal ETB working together with Gina Grant from Donegal Down Syndrome Association.
The course tutor is Clare Burton, assistant tutor is Olivia McCloat of Down Syndrome Ireland and the Educational PA is KellyMarie McColgan, a Donegal Down Syndrome volunteer.
All money raised from the virtual walk will go to Donegal Down Syndrome,
Anyone uploading pictures of their walk is asked to accompany it with the hashtag #DDSadulteducation.
