Almost 2,000 homes without power as thunderstorms strike south Donegal

Almost 2,000 homes in Donegal lost electricity this Sunday afternoon as thunder and lightning strike the south of the county.

Parts of Ballyshannon and north Sligo were badly affected by stormy conditions this afternoon.

ESB Networks reports power outages in Ballyshannon and Ballintra, while crews are working to restore supply this evening.

Some 1,766 customers north of Ballyshannon may experience the  outage until 8.15pm.

A status yellow thunder warning remains in place for Donegal until 11pm tonight, as thunderstorms with torrential downpours may bring a risk of hail and localised flooding.
