Fianna Fáil leader Micheál Martin looks set to become the next Taoiseach of Ireland under a new draft programme for government agreed today.
If plans go ahead, Martin will succeed Leo Varadkar until December 2022. The role will then rotate back to Varadkar afterwards.
It comes as a draft Programme for Government has been agreed today between Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Green Party.
If passed, it would see the rotating Taoiseach plan take effect, along with detailed policies for the parties to implement together.
The document will now be put to the three parties for a vote of approval, and if all three approve it, the next government will be formed by Fianna Fail, Fine Gael and the Greens.
