The Chairperson of Donegal Joint Policing Committee Cllr Gerry Mc Monagle has praised the Gardaí in their success in a recent aggravated burglary at Coolboy outside Letterkenny.

A 34-year-old woman appeared before the courts this morning after the incident in the early hours of Saturday morning last.

An elderly man and woman were threatened, assaulted and robbed during the robbery at their home at 7am.

The couple were also hospitalised as a result of their ordeal.

Councillor Gerry McMonagle said he wanted to thank both the Gardai and the community for their help with the investigation.

He said “Gardaí are to be praised for their quick response and for the work they put in to apprehend the suspect.

“I would also like to commend the local community for their support to the family concerned and in helping the Gardaí with their enquiries in this matter.

“I would ask local communities to remain vigilant at this time and to continue to look out for their elderly and vulnerable neighbours.”
