AN investigation has been launched after a body part was found in West Donegal this evening.

The limb, believed to be an arm, was found on the coast at Maghery.

It is understood that the arm was found by a walker this evening at around 6.30pm.

The coast guard and other emergency services responded when the alarm was raised.

The area has been cordoned off and a full investigation is underway.

A Garda spokesperson told Donegal Daily: “Gardaí at Milford Co Donegal are investigating all of the circumstances surrounding the discovery of partial human remains on the coast at Maghery near Dungloe on Thursday.

“The discovery was made at approximately 6.30pm.

“The remains have since been removed the mortuary at Letterkenny Hospital for a post-mortem examination.

“The office of the State Pathologist has been notified. Searches in the area involving local Gardaí and Coast Guard are ongoing.

“No further information is available at this time.“
