THE STAFF of Letterkenny Unversity Hospital came out to pay a poignant tribute to a dear friend, Mrs Mary Mulpeter, as her funeral took place this morning.

Mary Mulpeter (née Raftery), of Loughnagin Heights in Letterkenny and formerly of Fairymount, Co. Roscommon, passed away on Monday following a long illness.

The late Mary Mulpeter (née Raftery)

A woman of tremendous faith and charity, Mrs Mulpeter was a strong supporter of the Friends of Letterkenny University Hospital fundraising group. She worked tirelessly for the group for more than 20 years since moving to Letterkenny with her husband Professor Ken Mulpeter, a consultant geriatrician at the hospital.

Hundreds of LUH staff members came out to pay a special mark of respect to the late Mrs Mulpeter and her family as her funeral cortege passed through the hospital grounds.

Keeping with social-distancing, healthcare workers applauded in gratitude to Mrs Mulpeter’s tireless advocacy work.

Mary’s dedication to fundraising for Friends of LUH has helped fund the purchase of new medical equipment and service developments for the benefit of countless patients. She proudly raised up to €10,000 every year selling raffle tickets in the hospital lobby and has been hailed as a role model to many other members of the community.

Mrs Mulpeter was also a lifelong member of the Legion of Mary voluntary organisation. Wherever she lived, she cared for people in crisis, went door-to-door spreading the Word of God and always provided a listening ear to those in need.

Above all, Mrs Mulpeter was a devoted wife and a loving mother and grandmother. She is survived by her husband Ken and their six children David, Maria, Padhraic, Michael, Rachel and Eilish, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, grandchildren, sisters, Anne, Kathleen and Margaret, brothers-in-law and a wide circle of extended family and friends.
