GARDAÍ have confirmed that remains discovered in west Donegal last night were animal remains.

Investigations on partial remains, found by walkers at Maghery, near Dungloe yesterday evening at 6.30pm were initially believed by Gardaí to be human remains.

Examinations were carried out at Letterkenny University Hospital earlier today while the State pathologist’s office was notified.

Further searches of the surrounding area have since been stood down.

A Garda spokesperson told Donegal Daily: “Following further investigations carried out today, Friday 26th June 2020, these remains were discovered to be animal remains.”
